Maria Borio Translates Poetry into Music with 'Trasparenza'

publication · 2026-04-26

Italian poet and essayist Maria Borio (born 1985 in Perugia) has transformed her poetry collection 'Trasparenza' (Interlinea, 2018) into a musical work. The project, subtitled 'Poesia e musica,' includes a QR code in the book that allows readers to listen to songs composed by Elio Cagnizi based on Borio's poems. Unlike typical poetry-to-music adaptations where music dominates, Cagnizi's compositions respect the rhythmic scansion of the original texts, preserving their semantic weight. The collection was originally published in the Lyra giovani series directed by Franco Buffoni and was translated into English as 'Transparencies' by Danielle Pieratti for World Poetry Books in 2022. Borio, who edits the poetry section of Nuovi Argomenti and collaborates with the University of Perugia, has also published 'Vite unite' (Marcos y Marcos, 2015) and 'L'altro limite' (Pellegrini editore, 2024). Critical notes by Alessandro Carrera, Benedetta Saglietti, and Stefano Bechini accompany the multidimensional edition.
