Marguerite de Merode's Photographic Portraits of Literary Souls at Bibliothèque Mazarine

Marguerite de Merode's exhibition at the Bibliothèque Mazarine in Paris presents photographic portraits of 25 distinguished readers, each revealing the book that defines them. The project, inspired by Italo Calvino's categories of unread books, adds the missing 'Book That Represents You'. Participants include Amin Maalouf (Stefan Zweig), Thierry Escaich (Pasolini's Teorema), Adrien Goetz (Chas Laborde's illustrations), André Jammes (The Fleuron), Frédéric Barbier (Nietzsche's Ecce Homo), Gilles Clément (Fabre's Souvenirs entomologiques), Hervé Niquet (Petit Larousse illustré), Pierre Rosenberg (Poussin's correspondence), and Marc Augé (Lévi-Strauss on Mauss). De Merode uses photography to visualize the intimate connection between reader and text, creating an 'atlas of emotions' as described by Giuliana Bruno. The exhibition runs at the historic Bibliothèque Mazarine, founded by Cardinal Mazarin.
