Margherita Hack Monument Unveiled in Milan
On June 13, 2022, a bronze statue commemorating astrophysicist Margherita Hack, titled 'Sguardo fisico', was unveiled in Largo Richini, Milan, marking what would have been her 100th birthday. The artwork, created by Sissi (Daniela Olivieri), features Hack looking up at the stars, with her hands positioned like a telescope, emerging from a dynamic galaxy. This initiative was led by Fondazione Deloitte in collaboration with Casa degli Artisti and the Municipality of Milan's Public Art Office. Sissi was selected as the winner in a 2021 competition that included eight other artists. This statue is Milan's third public tribute to a woman, and it aims to inspire students at the nearby University of Milan while supporting gender equality in naming and STEM education.
