Margaret Bourke-White Retrospective Opens at Camera Torino

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Camera – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia in Turin presents a major retrospective of American photographer Margaret Bourke-White (1904–1971). The exhibition, titled 'Margaret Bourke-White. L’opera 1930-1960,' runs from June 14 to October 6, 2024, and is curated by Monica Poggi. It features approximately 150 photographs spanning Bourke-White's career, from her early work for Fortune magazine to her iconic images for Life, including the first cover of Life in November 1936 depicting the Fort Peck Dam. Bourke-White was the first foreign photographer allowed to photograph Soviet industry, the first American female war photojournalist, and documented poverty and racial segregation in the American South in her book 'You Have Seen Their Faces.' The exhibition includes her portraits of Stalin and Gandhi, as well as reportage on U.S. and Soviet industries, the liberation of Berlin, and concentration camps. The show also features tactile and audio-described works for accessibility. Concurrently, the Project Room hosts 'Paolo Novelli. Il giorno dopo la notte,' showcasing two series of black-and-white analog photographs of windows taken between 2011 and 2018.
