Marco Peri's new manual challenges museum education in Italy

Art historian and educator Marco Peri has published 'Sguardi educativi sul museo contemporaneo', a manual aimed at museum educators, museology students, and cultural operators. In an interview with Artribune, Peri discusses the new ICOM museum definition, which he calls 'a missed opportunity' for failing to address contemporary challenges. He advocates for museums as 'elsewhere' spaces offering alternative experiences, and promotes multisensory, body-inclusive educational approaches over purely visual and rational ones. Peri also highlights the precarious state of Italy's museum educator community, which lacks recognition and visibility, and calls for stronger professional networks to influence cultural policies.
