Marco Lodola Illuminates La Scala for 80th Reopening Anniversary

exhibition · 2026-05-11

For the 80th anniversary of its reopening, Milan's Teatro alla Scala has commissioned Marco Lodola to create 'Note di Luce', a light-based intervention from May 10 to 17. The project includes three luminous sculptures depicting characters from Verdi's Nabucco—Nabucco, Zaccaria, and Abigaille—rendered in Lodola's signature saturated colors and clean lines, transforming operatic drama into pop iconography. A video projection on the theater's facade makes the building itself an active part of the narrative. Curated with Angelo Bonello, the work continues a tradition of temporary public art redefining institutional spaces. A limited edition silkscreen print (30x40 cm) is available for €200, with proceeds (net of VAT) benefiting Fondazione Banco dell'Energia, which fights energy poverty. A2A is among the initiative's promoters, reinforcing the convergence of art, cultural institutions, and social responsibility. The project aims to connect art and city, memory and present, aesthetic gesture and collective responsibility.
