Marco Gastini exhibition at ELM Gallery in Milan
One month after the death of Marco Gastini (Turin, 1938-2018), ELM Gallery in Milan presents the exhibition 'Disegnare sul vuoto', curated by Marco Meneguzzo. The show focuses on works on plexiglass, a material invented in Germany in the 20th century, which Gastini used continuously for over fifty years. The exhibition traces a path through transparency, where the mark directly engages with the space that serves as background and fully enters the work. Displayed are scratched works from the 1970s and more material, colorful pieces from later years. Visitors are greeted by 'Com'era alto', a 2006 mixed-media piece with aluminum and slate fusions of great force. Also notable is a small work, 'Macchia' (1969-70), a square plexiglass slab just over twenty centimeters, featuring a painted area with high metallic content. This places Gastini in the context of Analytical Painting; he remained outside groups and trends, yet delivered a powerful message on the language of the medium, engaging directly with the debate.
