Marco Fedele di Catrano's 'Empty Spaces Between Ladders' at Lisbon Natural History Museum
The Museum of Science and Natural History in Lisbon hosts 'Empty Spaces Between Ladders', the first Portuguese museum solo show by Italian-Swiss artist Marco Fedele di Catrano. Curated by Sofia Marçal, the exhibition is conceived as a constantly evolving project, rejecting static display. Works are moved, modified, or replaced over four months, with the installation ending on September 14, 2025. The museum becomes a living organism in dialogue with the city, public, and time. New site-specific works include 'Rising Reversed II and III' (2025), two installations with large vinyl sheets filled with water, whose physical behavior distorts perception and reflects surrounding architecture. The video 'Untitled' (2014) documents a steel sphere interacting with abandoned spaces of the former Villaggio Morelli sanatorium in Valtellina, generating sound and visual tension. A public program included workshops for children, talks with researchers and philosophers, fostering interdisciplinary debate on transformation, memory, and the role of contemporary art in institutions.
