Marco Fantini's Dual Exhibition in Trento
The Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery and KN space in Trento have jointly organized "Concerto campestre (o interrotto)", a dual exhibition by Marco Fantini (born 1965 in Vicenza), curated by Federico Mazzonelli. The first venue features the large installation "HB", a book-like structure that fills the space, celebrating free and expressive drawing that blends with tactile, material painting. The second venue, open for a few more days, is more compact, dominated by medium-format works including drawings, charcoals, and collages. Black dominates, contrasted with white, grays, and ochre paper tones on rough surfaces that convey the time spent creating the works. Fantini depicts grotesque and comic figures reminiscent of Max Ernst and Hans Bellmer's dolls, but cooled and intellectualized by numbers, letters, and remnants of Duchampian bachelor machines. The exhibition title alludes to the enigmatic iconography of Titian's painting, revealing Fantini's symbolic and mysterious universe in a melancholic, intimate, and personal avant-garde painting.
