Marco Dapino: Photography Between Memory and Landscape

artist · 2026-05-05

Marco Dapino (born 1981) studied at Politecnico di Milano and photography at CFP Bauer. He has won the Riccardo Pezza Prize (2008) and the Carlo Scarpa Prize (2011). His work has been exhibited at Triennale Milano, MuFoCo in Cinisello Balsamo, CISA Palladio in Vicenza, and Museo Fattori in Livorno. Dapino collaborates with galleries in Italy and abroad. His series 'Golden Suicide' (2008) documents the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, a site where over 1,300 suicides have occurred since its opening in 1937. The series 'Anthropic Landscapes' (2008-15) explores the relationship between real landscapes and their visual codification through signs and captions, shot in US national parks, the Swiss Alps, Italian archaeological sites, and London botanical gardens. 'Limite' (2013) focuses on his family home in Cassine, Monferrato, examining memory and the perceived familiarity of spaces. 'Ore di città' (2016), shown at RB Gallery, captures Milan at twilight, blending natural and artificial light. His ongoing project on the American landscape, including 'No way out' (2008), reflects on the hyperreal nature of the US, influenced by photographers like William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, and Robert Adams.
