Marco Ceroni on His Shift to Ceramics and the 'SQUAME' Exhibition

artist · 2026-04-27

Marco Ceroni, born in Forlì in 1987, has recently transitioned from working with resins to ceramics, a shift prompted by a residency at Museo Carlo Zauli that culminated in his exhibition 'SQUAME' on September 15, 2020. The artist, known for his urban imagery and references to suburban tribes, created works like SLAG and LACOSTE using ceramic molds derived from Booster parts. He collaborated with ceramist Aida Bertozzi, tattoo artist Elia Landi for a wall painting, and art historian Alessandro Ossani for patch writing inspired by Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness'. Ceramics allowed Ceroni to explore contrasts between violence and allure, as seen in his earlier works like 'The Golden Edge' (2013-2016) and 'Moonwalk' (2017). His solo show 'SLAG' at GALLLERIAPIÙ in Bologna opened on September 25, 2020, featuring collaborations with artists Giorgio Bartocci, Stefano Serretta, Toni Brugnoli, Gabriele Colia, and Veronica Santi. The interview was conducted by Irene Biolchini, who teaches Contemporary Art at the University of Malta and serves as Guest Curator for the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza.
