Marco Bagnoli's Mystical Exhibition at Christian Stein in Milan
Marco Bagnoli's solo show 'Nel Paesaggio del Xvarnah' at Galleria Christian Stein in Milan presents a unified installation exploring mysticism, infinity, and the invisible. The exhibition is inspired by illuminated manuscripts from a museum in Istanbul depicting Xvarnah, the primordial light in Mazdean religion. Seven reproductions of these miniatures, veiled with translucent sheets marked by the artist, form a single work from 2019 that gives the show its title. Other works include 'Nel Giardino degli Specchi' (2020), featuring concave mirrored discs with a red bar; 'Dove Porta' (2021), an alabaster piece inspired by Pavel Florenskij and Russian icon metaphysics, revisiting a work from Documenta 1992; and 'Ema Kham Sum' (2021), a ceramic-treated panel evoking the Aleph. The exhibition also honors critic and philosopher Fulvio Salvadori, recently deceased, who was a friend and interpreter of Bagnoli, and whose last book 'Scritti sospesi' features a Xvarnah manuscript on its cover.
