Marco Bagnoli's 'La pietra il sol riveggia' at Reggia di Caserta

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Marco Bagnoli, an artist with a chemistry degree, presents 'La pietra il sol riveggia' at the Reggia di Caserta until September 23, 2024. Curated by Marina Guida, the exhibition occupies the courtyard and Gran Galleria. The title quotes Luigi Vanvitelli's inscription on the palace's foundation stone, evoking persistence, memory, and renewal. Organized by Galleria Giorgio Persano and Studio Trisorio, the show features the site-specific installation 'Locus Solis,' a nearly five-meter-high rotating vase referencing Raymond Roussel's 'Locus Solus.' In the Gran Galleria, eleven sculptures include 'Nel Paesaggio di Xvarnah' (2019), 'Aleph' (1997), and 'Origine' (1992), made from gold threads, ceramics, alabaster, and glass. Bagnoli has participated in the Venice Biennale (1982, 1986, 1997), documenta Kassel (1982, 1992), and Sonsbeek Arnhem (1986). Solo exhibitions include De Appel Amsterdam (1980, 1984), Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève (1985), Musée Saint-Pierre Lyon (1987), Magasin Grenoble (1991), Castello di Rivoli (1992), Centro Pecci Prato (1995), Madre Napoli (2015), and Museo del Novecento Milano (2022). His work also appears in the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna di Roma and Centre Georges Pompidou Paris. Guida describes his approach as philosophical and scientific, with strong symbolism around light, stone, and contamination.
