Marco Bagnoli launches Atelier Digitale blending art and AI in Montelupo

digital · 2026-04-26

Artist Marco Bagnoli (born Empoli, 1979) has launched Atelier Digitale, a project exploring intersections between art and artificial intelligence. The presentation is scheduled for November 30, 2024 at 3:30 PM during the conference "I Futuri della Memoria" hosted in his studio in Montelupo Fiorentino. The project was developed with a research group including Professor Alberto Del Bimbo, a computer engineering professor at the University of Florence and international researcher in Computer Vision, AI, and Multimedia, who utilized the MICC Media Integration and Communication Center. Cultural advisor Marco Bazzini, art history professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino and former director of Museo Pecci, also contributed. Two works by Bagnoli—"Come figura d’arciere" and "Colui che sta"—were 3D scanned and reproduced digitally, placed alongside originals in the studio's alchemical room. The AI-enabled works can answer questions in real time in any language, acting as an intermediary between artist and audience. The project is funded by PNRR digital archiving funds. A second component uses sophisticated software to catalog and archive Bagnoli's extensive body of work spanning video, sculpture, and sound.
