Marco Anelli's photographs chronicle a decade of Magazzino Italian Art

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The exhibition 'Marco Anelli: Building Magazzino 2014-2024' at Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York, runs through October 28, 2024. Curated by Paola Mura, it features about fifty photographs by Marco Anelli (Rome, 1968) selected from over one hundred taken during the museum's construction. Anelli, who lives and works in New York, focused on the workers and artisans who built the museum, capturing them without artificial poses to highlight their humanity. The museum, founded by Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu to promote postwar and contemporary Italian art in the United States, opened its main 20,000-square-foot building designed by Miguel Quismondo in 2017. In September 2023, it added the Robert Olnick Pavilion, a 13,000-square-foot independent structure designed by Alberto Campo Baeza and Miguel Quismondo, named after Nancy Olnick's father. The exhibition honors the local Putnam County community's contribution. Anelli's work is part of the museum's collection, alongside its architecture and exhibition program.
