Marciano Art Foundation to Open New LA Museum in Former Masonic Temple

institutional · 2026-05-05

In spring 2017, a new contemporary art museum will debut in Los Angeles, established by Paul and Maurice Marciano, the founders of Guess, through their Marciano Art Foundation, which was founded in 2013. The museum, located in a former Scottish Rite Masonic temple near Koreatown, was acquired for $8 million. Its collection boasts 1,500 pieces from notable artists, including Mark Grotjahn, Takashi Murakami, and Mike Kelley. Jamie G. Manné, who has overseen the collection for seven years, will take on the role of director. The Marcianos are funding the project independently and have yet to form a board of trustees. Additionally, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) will open this fall at 1717 East Seventh Street, featuring designs by Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY architecture.
