Marcello Maloberti's 'Tu sei la memoria della mia notte' at Milan's Shoah Memorial

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Until March 16, 2025, Milan's Shoah Memorial hosts 'Tu sei la memoria della mia notte', a solo exhibition by Marcello Maloberti (born 1966 in Codogno). The project expands on his permanent installation 'Invitami notte a immaginare le stelle', created in 2023 on the Memorial's facade. That neon work, donated by Maloberti and Galleria Raffaella Cortese to the Memorial and the city of Milan, was unveiled during Rai's 'Binario 21' broadcast on Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023, in collaboration with Fabio Fazio. The white neon phrase, tracing the handwriting of Senator Liliana Segre, invites visitors to imagine new futures. The exhibition, curated by Diego Sileo and realized with PAC Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea di Milano, presents four new works: three 'martellate' on paper and a new light installation. The paper works feature preparatory phrases for the 2023 facade text. The light installation, which gives the show its title, charges viewers with the responsibility never to forget and not to remain indifferent. All new works use Segre's handwriting, creating a four-handed collaboration. Maloberti describes his 'martellate'—a form of pure writing he has used since 1990—as his art history and philosophy, an almanac of political declarations, love aphorisms, and poetic acts tied to the sacred. The exhibition deepens the dialogue between art and history, inside and outside, past and present, making the visitor an active part of testimony.
