Marcello Jori's 'Feto e Carletto' Published by Frankenstein, Exhibition at Galleria Federico Vavassori

publication · 2026-05-05

Marcello Jori's comic series 'Feto e Carletto', originally published in black and white on Alter Alter and later in color on Linus between 1979 and 1982, has been released in a complete edition by Milanese publisher Frankenstein. The story follows Carletto, a premature baby who aborts his parents, and Feto, a fetus torn from a borrowed womb, who become grotesque figures reminiscent of Rabelais' Gargantua and Pantagruel. They mock Renaissance ideals, feasting on intestines and orifices, kidnapping children, and tormenting parents. The book ends with an image of a Junoesque body referencing Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely's 1966 work 'She-a-Cathedral', of which only the head remains. An exhibition of framed panels painted by Jori for the occasion runs at Galleria Federico Vavassori until May 8. A capsule collection with OVS has also been released.
