Marcello Dantas named senior curator for Vancouver Biennale 2027-29

Marcello Dantas has been named the senior curator for the 2027-29 edition of the Vancouver Biennale. Barrie Mowatt, the founder, regards Dantas as one of the top curators globally. His recent projects include co-curating Desert X AlUla 2024 in Saudi Arabia alongside Maya El Khalil and organizing an exhibition for Es Devlin in São Paulo. Dantas is currently the art director at Sfer Ik in Tulum, Mexico, and previously held the role of artistic director at Pelé Station during the 2006 World Cup in Berlin. He has worked with renowned artists like Shirin Neshat and Ai Weiwei and produced operas by Peter Greenaway. Dantas is keen on addressing themes of belonging and displacement while advocating for clear distinctions between public and private spaces in Vancouver's evolving landscape.
