Marcel Dinahet's Estuary Videos at Frac des Pays de la Loire

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Marcel Dinahet presents three videos at Frac des Pays de la Loire in Carquefou, France, from January 9 to February 3, 2002. The exhibition features two experiences: a large projection and two smaller ones. Dinahet filmed in the Loire estuary downstream from Nantes, capturing interfaces between river and sea, north and south, leisure and industry. Two videos are traveling shots taken from ferries crossing the estuary, one through a rectangular porthole and the other through the cabin door, both from south to north. The camera rests on the ferry and the artist's body, creating subtle oscillations. The third video, projected vertically, alternates two sequences separated by black. The artist walks along the river with the camera dangling, filming blindly, then accelerates into violent motion where visual and sound elements merge. Dinahet no longer produces objects but films border spaces as physical experiences.
