exhibition · 2026-04-22

From February 14 to May 15, 2016, The Museum of Modern Art in New York showcased a significant retrospective of Marcel Broodthaers (1924-76), displaying 200 pieces, which included his initial sculpture, Pense-Bête (1964), and early poetry collections. Additionally, three exhibitions ran simultaneously: "Marcel Broodthaers: Écriture" at Michael Werner Gallery (January 28–March 26, 2016), a presentation at Paul Kasmin Gallery (March 3–April 23, 2016), and "Marcel Broodthaers: Invitation to a Voyage" at Alden Projects (March 5–May 8, 2016). Broodthaers, who started his visual art journey at the age of 40, utilized materials such as mussel shells and eggshells. In 1968, he established the Musée d’Art Moderne, Départment des Aigles, and MoMA later released a limited facsimile of his book Atlas (1975).
