Marcel Broodthaers' Industrial Poems at MASI Lugano
MASI Lugano presents a rare exhibition of Marcel Broodthaers' 'Industrial Poems', organized with WIELS Brussels and curated by Dirk Snauwaert and Charlotte Friling. The show features 72 placards created between 1968 and 1972, along with preparatory drawings, sketches, three films, and an 'Interview with the Cat'. Broodthaers, a poet turned artist in his forties, used language and objects to critique the art system, famously recalling his cynical entry into art via gallery owner Ph. Édouard Toussaint. The exhibition highlights his linguistic investigations, referencing René Magritte and Marcel Duchamp's playful dimensions but with a distinct political and historical context. Concurrently, Edizioni Casagrande published 'Lettere aperte e conversazioni', edited by Francesca Benini, in collaboration with heirs Maria Gilissen Broodthaers, Marie-Puck Broodthaers, and Succession Marcel Broodthaers. The exhibition runs at MASI Lugano.
