institutional · 2026-04-24

Starting July 1, Marc-Olivier Wahler, a Swiss curator and academic, will assume the role of director at Michigan State University's Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. He succeeds Michael Rush, the museum's founding director, who died in March 2015. Wahler has an impressive background, having previously led the Palais de Tokyo in Paris from 2006 to 2012 and the Swiss Institute from 2000 to 2006. He also founded the Chalet Society in Paris and Transformer Sculpture Park in Portugal. Besides his directorial roles, Wahler serves as an artistic advisor for De Appel Arts Center in Amsterdam and CI Contemporary Istanbul, while contributing to various art publications. The museum, designed by Zaha Hadid, opened in 2012 and showcases a diverse collection, including ancient artifacts and contemporary pieces, all thanks to the generosity of Eli and Edythe Broad.
