Marc Newson designs 14kg bookstand for Taschen collector editions
Taschen has released a new furniture piece designed by Marc Newson: a 14kg bookstand made from acrylic glass, aluminium, and steel, priced at £1,500. The stand features a red aluminium adjuster and a forged aluminium tripod head with a bent acrylic slab to securely hold oversized books. It is specifically designed for Taschen's Collector's Edition portfolio covering art, design, photography, fashion, and architecture. Newson has a long history with the publisher: in 2024 they released his monograph; in 2018 he created an aluminium slipcase for the Collector's Edition of Pino Allievi's Ferrari catalogue raisonné; he also made a sailcloth case for the America's Cup XXL edition and a carbon-fibre stand for its special Marc Newson Edition. Additionally, only 12 copies exist of the 'Lunar Rock Edition' of Norman Mailer's MoonFire (originally published 1970, reissued 2009), which includes a lunar meteorite specimen in a lunar module-inspired case—now only available at auction. The new bookstand allows collectors to bypass the second-hand market and buy directly from Taschen.
