Marc Ferrez Retrospective Opens at IMS Paulista with 300+ Items

A major retrospective of photographer Marc Ferrez (1843-1923) opens March 26 at IMS Paulista, featuring over 300 photographs, original albums, cameras, and documents. Titled 'Marc Ferrez: Território e Imagem,' the exhibition spans his 50-year career, documenting Brazil's transformation from the late Empire to early Republic. Curator Sergio Burgi notes Ferrez's legacy provides a unique platform for understanding the country's representation. The show includes landscape images of Rio, his work as official photographer for the Imperial Geological Commission, public works documentation, records of enslaved labor on coffee plantations, and personal travel photos. It also addresses technological changes in photography during that period of rapid modernization. A parallel program includes debates, a course, and the launch of the book 'Marc Ferrez, Uma Cronologia da Vida e da Obra' by Ileana Pradilla Ceron. The exhibition runs through July 21 with free admission.
