Marc Chagall's Graphic Works and Jewish Heritage at Mudec Milan
The Mudec museum in Milan presents 'Marc Chagall: A Story of Two Worlds,' an exhibition curated by the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, which lent over 100 works. The show focuses on Chagall's graphic works and his role as an illustrator, moving beyond his famous lovers series to explore his family memories and Jewish identity. Divided into four sections—Jewish and Yiddish Culture, Nostalgia, Sources of Inspiration, and France, the New Homeland—the exhibition includes objects of Jewish ritual. It traces Chagall's roots in Vitebsk (now Belarus), his love for wife Bella Rosenfeld, and his move to Paris. Highlights include original drawings for Bella's books 'Burning Lights' and 'First Encounter,' illustrations for Gogol's 'Dead Souls' and La Fontaine's 'Fables,' and a multimedia installation of Cantù lace flowers. The exhibition runs at Mudec in 2022.
