Marc Camille Chaimowicz's One to One Exhibition at Kestner Gesellschaft Blurs Lines Between Private Life and Performance
The exhibition titled One to One… by Marc Camille Chaimowicz is on display at Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover from 29 September to 7 January. This event reimagines a former bathhouse as a theatrical space focused on intimacy. A significant feature is a life-sized replica of Chaimowicz's new Vauxhall flat, adorned with an earthy pastel color scheme and solitary pieces of furniture, including the One Metre Chair (1992–3). Noteworthy elements comprise Rideaux de scène, Théâtre Jean-Vilar (1991–2), a dressing area for Jean Genet's The Maids, and The Props and Wardrobe Room (2011/17), showcasing intriguing artifacts. Lise Queinnec's photographs contribute to a sense of disorientation. The exhibition explores themes of intersubjectivity and performance, evoking feelings of intruding on staged privacy. It was featured in the December 2017 edition of ArtReview.
