Mara Palena's 'The Window' Opens Studio G7's Project Room in Bologna

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Galleria Studio G7 in Bologna has launched Project Room, a new initiative dedicated to emerging artists, with its inaugural exhibition 'The Window' by Milan-based artist Mara Palena (b. 1988). Curated by Laura Lamonea, the show explores the intimate relationship between space and time. Central to the installation is a pale pink curtain framing a video work that uses static shots reminiscent of photography. Each scene is illuminated by a window and features domestic objects and the artist's own body, creating a narrative about memory, ritual, and the passage of time. The video depicts the artist attempting to distance herself from childhood places laden with memories, where time seems to move differently. Accompanying the video are reinterpreted objects from the video, finished with opaque glass that introduces physical and symbolic distance, acting as a filter for memory. The exhibition marks the first edition of Project Room, described by director Giulia Biafore as a space for young artists to engage directly with the public and the city, focusing on urgent contemporary themes without medium restrictions.
