MAO Turin acquires four new works by Kengo Kuma, Lee Mingwei, Marzia Migliora, Francesco Simeti
The Museo d'Arte Orientale (MAO) in Turin has recently expanded its permanent collection by adding four unique artworks as part of the Declinazioni contemporanee initiative, which started in 2022 under the direction of Davide Quadrio. This initiative aims to foster interaction between modern artists and the museum’s existing pieces, promoting cultural exchange and artist residencies. Noteworthy additions include Kengo Kuma's stunning piece, Flying Kodama, which features a 120cm sphere made of ash wood tiles and LED lights, hanging in the atrium. Other significant works are Francesco Simeti's wallpaper that ties into a project for families with hospitalized children, five tapestries by Marzia Migliora called Il rituale del serpente, and Lee Mingwei's minimalist piece, Le son de la pierre. Quadrio emphasized the museum's role in creating opportunities for future generations.
