Manuel Ocampo and Lani Maestro selected for Philippine Pavilion at 2017 Venice Biennale
In 2017, the Philippines will be represented at the 57th Venice Biennale by Manuel Ocampo and Lani Maestro. Their exhibition, named The Spectre of Comparison, will be curated by Joselina Cruz, who is the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Manila. The announcement regarding their selection was made jointly by the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Department of Foreign Affairs on 14 October 2016. Ocampo, a Manila resident, lived in California for nearly ten years during the 1980s and 1990s, while Maestro splits her time among France, Canada, and the Philippines. The pavilion will explore interpretations of the Philippines and Western viewpoints through the artists' diverse backgrounds. The Biennale will run from 13 May to 26 November 2017.
