Manuel Borja-Villel and Carla Acevedo-Yates Receive CCS Bard Awards
Manuel Borja-Villel has been named the recipient of the 2024 Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence, which includes a $25,000 prize. Tom Eccles, the executive director of CCS Bard, praised Borja-Villel for challenging traditional methods and fostering debates on visual culture. He expressed gratitude for being recognized alongside notable past winners like Harald Szeemann and Okwui Enwezor. Recently, he and Vasif Kortun issued an open letter criticizing Documenta 16, calling it a symbol of a "plagued Europe" after their proposal was turned down. Additionally, Carla Acevedo-Yates, a CCS Bard graduate, is the inaugural recipient of the $10,000 Scott Lorinsky Alumni Award for her focus on Global South artists. Both awards will be presented at CCS Bard's spring gala in New York City on April 18, 2024. The Audrey Irmas Award began in 1998 to honor curatorial creativity, while the Scott Lorinsky Alumni Award was established this year to recognize exceptional alumni achievements.
