MANN's 'Pompei. The Exhibition' Tours US for Three Years

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) has signed a three-year agreement with Mondo Mostre and Exhibitions International to tour 'Pompei. The Exhibition' across the United States from November 2016 to May 2018. The show will feature artworks, archaeological artifacts, and many unpublished frescoes and sculptures from the museum's storerooms, ensuring the permanent collection remains intact. Director Paolo Giulierini emphasized that Naples is the only Italian institution capable of mounting such overseas exhibitions without weakening its own offerings. A new section inside MANN, 'MANN nel mondo,' will display a world map tracking ongoing international shows. The tour follows a successful 2013–2015 edition that drew 204,401 visitors at Philadelphia's Franklin Institute (five months), 298,830 at Los Angeles' California Science Center (eight months), and 180,340 at Seattle's Pacific Science Center (three months). New stops include Kansas City's Union Station, Phoenix's Museum of Science and Industry (June–October 2017), and Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry (November 2017–May 2018). For the first time, the exhibition will present frescoes and sculptures from the Domus del Citarista, one of Pompeii's most lavish villas.
