MANN Napoli launches 'Father and Son 2' video game sequel

digital · 2026-04-27

The MANN – Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli has released 'Father and Son 2', the sequel to its acclaimed video game that garnered nearly 5 million downloads since its 2017 debut. The new chapter, produced in collaboration with cultural association TuoMuseo, shifts focus to Gloria, Michael's partner, responding to over 85,000 user comments and ratings on Apple App Store and Google Play. Game designer Fabio Viola noted that community feedback drove the emphasis on the female protagonist. The game follows Gloria, an archaeology student, through time-travel adventures linked to the museum's collections, including encounters with an Etruscan in Capua in 475 BC (referencing the 2020 exhibition 'Gli Etruschi e il MANN'), Cleopatra and Mark Antony in the 1st century BC, Charles Dickens in Naples in 1844, and the Four Days of Naples uprising of September 27–30, 1943. MANN director Paolo Giulierini stated that the sequel proves the museum's consistent and conscious use of technology to engage audiences, emphasizing gamification as a key tool for heritage dissemination and the integration of physical and digital communities. 'Father and Son 2' targets an international audience: only 7% of the original's downloads were from Italy, and the sequel is available in Italian, English, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese, with a Neapolitan dialect version. Players who complete the game receive a three-year museum entry pass. The game is available on Apple App Store and Google Play.
