MANN enters Minecraft with 1:1 digital replica and 26 new digital projects
During its first Digital Day, the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) unveiled 26 digital projects funded by the PON Culture and Development program. These include virtual reality tours, a cycling tourism app with e-bike charging station, an Echo voice game called 'Fuga dal museo', a video installation by Pietro Galifi of Bagliva, and MANNCRAFT by TuoMuseo — a 1:1 scale reconstruction of the museum within Mojang's Minecraft (Microsoft). MANNCRAFT is only playable on the Java edition of Minecraft for PC, requiring CurseForge to install mods. The map reproduces key sculptures from MANN's collection, including a blocky Doryphoros and five bronze statues mislabeled as 'sons of Danaos' instead of Danaids. The museum cites Minecraft's 140 million monthly active users as potential reach, but the installation complexity and PC-only access raise questions about its effectiveness in attracting young audiences.
