Manifesta 13 Artistic Team Revealed for Marseille Biennial in 2020

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Director Hedwig Fijen has announced that Manifesta 13 is set to take place in Marseille from June 7 to November 1, 2020. The artistic team features several notable figures, including Alya Sebti, who leads Berlin's ifa Gallery; Spanish architect Marina Otero Verzier; Katerina Chuchalina, the chief curator at the V-A-C Foundation in both Moscow and Venice; and Stefan Kalmár, director of the ICA in London. In 2018, Dutch architect Winy Maas and the Rotterdam-based firm MVRDV were tasked with conducting a pre-biennial urban research study for Marseille, aiming to weave the event into the city’s social, cultural, and political dynamics, similar to the approach taken for Manifesta 12 in Palermo. This biennial emphasizes site-specific engagement through architectural and curatorial methods.
