Manifesta 13 announces Creative Mediators for Marseille edition

Manifesta 13 will take place in Marseille from June 7 to November 1, 2020, following the model of Manifesta 12 Palermo. The biennale has appointed four Creative Mediators to develop the concept: Alya Sebti (director of ifa Gallery Berlin, curator of Dak'Art 2018 and Marrakech Biennale 5), Marina Otero Verzier (director of research at Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam), Katerina Chuchalina (executive director of V-A-C Foundation Moscow and Venice), and Stefan Kalmár (director of ICA London, formerly Artists Space and Kunstverein München). The pre-biennial research on Marseille has been commissioned to architect Winy Maas and MVRDV, mirroring the Palermo Atlas research by OMA for the previous edition. Manifesta director Hedwig Fijen stated that Marseille, as a Mediterranean city with contradictions and multiculturalism, reflects the geopolitical challenges of France and Europe. The artistic team reflects a transdisciplinary approach combining architecture, urbanism, curation, and production.
