Manifesta 12 appoints four creative mediators for 2018 Palermo biennial

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Manifesta, the nomadic European biennial, has appointed four innovative mediators for its 2018 edition in Palermo. The team consists of Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli from the Rotterdam-based Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), who joined in November 2016; Swiss curator Mirjam Varadinis; Spanish architect and scholar Andrés Jaque; and Dutch filmmaker Bregtje van der Haak. Their mission involves collaborating with local communities to investigate issues like migration, climate change, and heritage, focusing on Palermo’s architectural and cultural landscape. Their research results will be shared publicly in spring 2017, with the biennial plans to be unveiled in summer 2017. Manifesta's director, Hedwig Fijen, noted that the biennial's nomadic approach necessitates a tailored strategy for engaging with cities.
