Manifattura Tabacchi Firenze: Summer 2019 Program Launches with B9, Mancuso Installation

The redevelopment of the Manifattura Tabacchi (MT) in Florence, a former tobacco factory that halted production on March 16, 2001, is underway with a budget of €250 million. Aermont Capital LLP oversees the project, which includes the recently inaugurated Building 9 (B9), crafted by architects Luca and Marco Baldini of Q-bic. This building accommodates various ateliers, labs, and commercial spaces such as Baba ceramics and Superduper Hats, along with a bistrot and co-working areas, plus outdoor facilities like a garden and stage. The overall masterplan, designed by Concrete and PiuArch, envisions a 100,000 sqm complex featuring 16 buildings. Notably, 'La fabbrica dell'aria' by Stefano Mancuso will purify air by eliminating 98% of pollutants. The summer 2019 program anticipates 70,000 visitors over 85 days, with events including Boiler Room and Many Possible Cities. Currently, the exhibition 'Plastic Dreams' showcases 9 video installations until July 20, while TOAST Project Space exhibits 'Swan Lake and Swan Dance' by Guendalina Cerruti from June 26. Future occupants will include The Student Hotel and Polimoda fashion school.
