Manglaria Exhibition Explores Afro-Indigenous Heritage in Cali

The exhibition 'Manglaria: raíces y sujeciones' opens at Casa Obeso Mejía, part of Museo La Tertulia in Cali, Colombia, from August 15 to September 13. Curated by Fabio Melecio Palacios and Henry Salazar, the show features 25 artists and one collective, including Christian Velásquez, Carmenza Banguera, Jordan Ramírez, Juan Durán, Angie Montenegro, Edgar Álvarez, Margarita Ariza, Andrea Payán, and Ximena Vásquez. Works span photography, video installation, sculpture, figurative art, sound art, and performance, questioning stereotypes and contradictions in Colombia's racist narratives. The title alludes to the symbolic space of the Colombian Pacific, where artistic paths intersect to address the region's past, present, and future. The unconventional venue allows installations in the kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, and gardens, engaging visitors with the house's history. The exhibition is the result of the Litoralidades research-creation group led by the curators.
