Manet exhibition in Turin cancelled amid political dispute between mayor and museum foundation

Patrizia Asproni, the president of Fondazione Torino Musei, responded to remarks made by Mayor Chiara Appendino, who attributed the cancellation of a 2017 Edouard Manet exhibition at GAM Torino, initially announced by former mayor Fassino, to her. Appendino, along with councillor Francesca Leon, has called for Asproni's resignation, citing strained relations with a cultural partner. Asproni indicated that she had sought a meeting with the new administration, which is set for October 24, and is waiting for a new city council representative. She rejected the blame, asserting that mayoral interference compromised the foundation's independence. Skira CEO Massimo Vitta Zelman emphasized that the exhibition's progression hinges on support from the new administration, with its future uncertain until discussions occur with GAM-Rivoli's new director, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev.
