Mandana Moghaddam's 'Woman Life Freedom' at Bildmuseet
Bildmuseet presents 'Woman Life Freedom', an exhibition of works by Iranian-born artist Mandana Moghaddam. The show features mirror mosaic pieces from her series 'Underlandet [The Wonderland]' and the sculpture 'Chelgis I', a human-scale figure covered in hair inside a glass case. Moghaddam also debuts a new sculpture, 'What they gonna do with the inevitable growth of sprouts?', and a new work in the 'Underlandet' series, created specifically for the museum. The exhibition title references Mahsa Jina Amini, the 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian student who died on September 16, 2022, after arrest by Iran's morality police, sparking nationwide protests under the slogan 'Woman, Life, Freedom'. Moghaddam's practice spans video, sculpture, and installation, often using hair, mirror mosaic, and concrete to explore themes of human communication, migration, feminism, and Iranian cultural history.
