Manal AlDowayan to Represent Saudi Arabia at Venice Biennale 2024
Manal AlDowayan has been selected to showcase her work for Saudi Arabia at the 60th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, happening from April 20 to November 24, 2024. Her installation will reflect the biennale's theme, 'Foreigners Everywhere,' which is curated by Adriano Pedrosa and explores the idea of being an 'outsider' through various lenses like nationality and gender. AlDowayan, recognized for pieces like 'Suspended Together' (2011) and 'Esmi-My Name' (2012), actively involves Saudi women in workshops focused on social customs related to gender. The Ministry of Culture's Visual Arts Commission, under CEO Dina Amin, is overseeing the pavilion, co-curated by Jessica Cerasi and Maya El Khalil, with Shadin AlBulaihed's support. This event will mark Saudi Arabia's fourth participation in Venice Biennale.
