MAN di Nuoro Celebrates 25 Years with Sardinian Art Survey

The MAN museum in Nuoro, Sardinia, marks its 25th anniversary with the exhibition 'Le affinità immaginate', curated by Chiara Gatti and Rita Moro. Featuring 100 works from the permanent collection, the show spans from Giovanni Ciusa Romagna's return to order to Antonio Ballero's verism, Mario Sironi's divisionist phase, and the abstraction of Mauro Manca. It highlights artists who studied at ISIA Monza during the Fascist era, including Salvatore Fancello, Costantino Nivola, and Giovanni Pintori. A dedicated section focuses on women artists such as Francesca Devoto, Maria Lai, and photographer Lisetta Carmi, whose Sardinian reportages date from 1962 to 1976. The exhibition creates dialogues between historical and contemporary figures, mixing past and present through a 'time machine' installation. The MAN collection now exceeds 1,000 works, built from initial public loans from the Province, Municipality, Provincial Tourism Board, and Chamber of Commerce. Housed in a 1920s building that once served as the provincial institution, the museum opened in 1999 in Nuoro's historic center. The show traces the island's cultural transformations from the 19th century to today.
