Man charged with bomb threat against US consulate in Halifax

Ali Assakereh, 54, has been charged by Canadian authorities with making threats and causing public mischief following a bomb threat directed at the US consulate in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This threat was reported on Sunday night. The following morning, police discovered a vehicle associated with Assakereh parked close to the consulate, which contained a propane tank and containers suspected of holding flammable substances. As a safety measure, several streets downtown were evacuated; however, an explosives expert later assessed that the items did not pose a danger, leading to the evacuation being lifted by Monday afternoon. Assakereh is set to appear in provincial court. Meanwhile, the US embassy in Ottawa has refrained from commenting as the investigation proceeds. This event comes on the heels of two shootings at the US consulate in Toronto earlier this year, raising alarms about diplomatic security in Canada.
