MAMbo transforms into Nuovo Forno del Pane, an artist production center

Starting in June 2020, MAMbo – Museo Arte Moderna di Bologna will unveil Nuovo Forno del Pane, a new residency and production hub for artists located in the Sala delle Ciminiere. Lorenzo Balbi, the museum's director, remarked that plans for exhibitions made before the pandemic now seem outdated. The initiative aims to foster a creative community by providing studio-laboratories for visual artists, photographers, designers, and filmmakers. An open call in May 2020 will select 10–12 Bologna-based artists lacking studio space, offering them workspace, production support, and access to various amenities. Collaborators include Regione Emilia-Romagna and Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna. Councillor Matteo Lepore highlighted the importance of cultural investment during layoffs in US galleries, while Aldo Giannotti designed the visual identity, reflecting the building's bakery heritage.
