MAMbo Bologna 2019 Program: Mika Rottenberg, Cesare Pietroiusti, and Young Italian Artists
The MAMbo in Bologna has announced its 2019 exhibition program, featuring three solo shows in the Sala delle Ciminiere: Mika Rottenberg (opening January 30), an unnamed young foreign artist, and Cesare Pietroiusti (autumn). The museum will continue its Project Room series focusing on Emilia-Romagna with three projects blending art, music, and comics. Villa delle Rose will host Goran Trbuljak (opening January 25, in collaboration with CAC Geneva) and the third edition of the ROSE Residency Program featuring Catherine Biocca in spring. ART CITY Bologna will include events across the city, new permanent collection sections, special projects at Padiglione de l'Esprit Nouveau and Casa Morandi, plus collaborations with festivals, meetings, and book presentations. Young Italian artists will be featured in the permanent collection, ART CITY projects (Christian Fogarolli at Palazzo Poggi, Michele Spanghero at Cinema Modernissimo), and in the production of Pietroiusti's central work, involving 15-16 young artists. Funding comes from the municipality, foundations, fundraising, grants (including Italian Council for Pietroiusti's work), and sponsorships. Director Lorenzo Balbi reports a positive 2018 with increased public attendance and media attention. Future goals include a training project with the university, artist studio spaces, and restoring the Ex-Forno del pane chimneys.
