MAM Rio's Largest Sculpture Exhibition 'Estado Bruto' Features 126 Works from Museum Collection

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro presents its most extensive sculpture exhibition ever, showcasing 126 pieces from its holdings. Curated by artistic directors Keyna Eleison and Pablo Lafuente with adjunct curator Beatriz Lemos, the show transforms the Monumental Hall and third-floor areas into a sculptural garden. Featuring works by 107 artists across different periods and styles, the exhibition highlights the museum's collection diversity. Twenty-four pieces haven't been displayed for over two decades, prompting reflection on collection practices and historical narratives. The installation emphasizes accumulation and volume, with sculptures arranged in subtle thematic groupings. Works by Amilcar de Castro, Auguste Rodin, Cildo Meireles, Constantin Brancusi, Lygia Clark, Maria Martins, Nelson Leirner, Nuno Ramos, and Tunga are included. The exhibition runs from May 6 to August 29, 2021, at MAM Rio's Flamengo Park location.
