MAM Rio's 'Composições para tempos insurgentes' Explores Alternative Life Dynamics Through Collective Curation

The Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro presents 'Composições para tempos insurgentes,' a group exhibition curated by Beatriz Lemos alongside artistic directors Keyna Eleison and Pablo Lafuente. On view until May 8, 2022, the show assembles over 100 works from artists including Adriana Varejão, Dalton Paula, and Regina Vater, featuring six commissioned projects and loans from private collections. It proposes a reflection on processes of life articulation, gathering works that imagine non-hegemonic dynamics of existence, often blurring boundaries between nature and culture. The curatorial trio emphasizes a collective conceptualization, drawing from indigenous, Afro-Brazilian, and popular traditions. A tripartite thought structure, referencing the number of Exu and the Holy Trinity, guides the exhibition's dynamics and occupies three museum spaces with scenography by Juliana Godoy. The resulting publication will include contributions from participating artists and masters from various fields.
