MAM Rio Marks 75 Years with Exhibition Exploring Five Institutional Pillars

The 75th anniversary of the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (MAM Rio) is marked by the exhibition 'Museu-escola-cidade: o MAM Rio em cinco perspectivas,' which runs until December. Curated by Pablo Lafuente alongside the museum's staff, the showcase includes around 250 pieces from its extensive 16,000-item collection, as well as 250 documents, all housed in the Salão Monumental. The exhibition delves into themes such as education, design, experimentation, cinemateca, and artistic movements, featuring works by 93 artists, including Alberto Giacometti and Abraham Palatnik. The curatorial journey commenced in mid-2022, involving research and dialogue with former collaborators. Lafuente highlights the impact of the 1978 fire and reveals a forthcoming exhibition on Affonso Eduardo Reidy's architectural project, set to debut in late July.
