MAM Rio Celebrates Gilberto Chateaubriand Centenary with Monumental Exhibition

In honor of Gilberto Chateaubriand's centenary, the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro is showcasing 'Gilberto Chateaubriand: uma coleção sensorial,' under the curation of Pablo Lafuente and Raquel Barreto. This exhibit reconstructs a wall of artwork captured in 2008 by Vicente de Mello and includes more than 8,300 items from the Coleção Gilberto Chateaubriand, featuring notable works such as Tarsila do Amaral's 'Urutu' (1928) and Anita Malfatti's 'O Farol' (1915). The collection is divided into thematic sections: Origens, Fronteiras, Retratos, and Artistas, highlighting Chateaubriand's inaugural purchase, 'Paisagem de Itapoã' (1953) by José Pancetti. After a fire in 1978, he donated approximately 6,400 pieces to MAM Rio. A documentary titled 'Diplomacia e Arte: a vida de Gilberto Chateaubriand' complements the exhibition.
